Al-Mahnoor honey is harvested from Shankaracharya, Sangri and Overa Forest region of Kashmir Valley which is also known as land of Rishi Kashyap. The area is home to a number of rare, threatened and protected species of birds and mammals. It sustains Hangul, Musk Deer, Serow, Rhesus Macaque, Langur, Leopard, Leopard Cat, around 13 species of mammals and over 80 species of birds. The forest region has acquired an outstanding position for its varied and magnificent species of pheasants. Richly covered with a variety of floral complexes, which comprise mainly of conifers; the principal species being Gautheer, Handoon, Roohun, Chari Saben, Hapet Gogej, Tethwan, Satavar etc. The forest also produces some of the edible wild herbs includes Hand, Wopalhak, Ubaj, Prezdar, Nunar, Suchal, Van Tulsi, Koku etc. They have a lot of nutritional value and are used in meals also. Van Tulsi / Sulai flowers bloom in abundance from the month of October to November,when the flowers bloom the honey bees come uninvited and forage on the nectar of snow-white blossoms of Sulai. The honey harvested from the hive where acreages of a Van Tulsi flowers lend a distinct flavor, fragrance, color and taste to the honey. This honey is thick and very light golden color, have great medicinal values. It is a great source of anti-oxidant, have good antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Honey collectors enters the forest when the sky is clear and the river is at low tide. One person stays behind to row the boat along the bank. The Mouwali after entering the forest and locating a giant honeybee colony, make torches from green hetal leaves along with some other materials for smoking to drive the bees from the comb. Sometimes the bees sense the threat and sting even before the smoke rises. Smoking removes most of the honeybees and Mouwalis collects the wax and honey from hive without breaking the entire hive, since it needs to regrow. When some honey is gathered, it is deposited in the boat. Giant honeybee such as Apis Dorsata, Apis Laboriosa are the principal honey producing honey bees in the Sundarbans forest. HARVESTING: After manually squeezing the honey out of honeycombs, we use normal cotton cloth to remove only hive debris yet retaining all the natural goodies like propolis, royal jelly, wax & bee pollen. Next stage is to manually fill this honey in the bottle. No plant or machinery has been used in the entire process. UNADULTERATED: This raw honey is unprocessed, unheated, free from all type of adulteration such as sugar, corn syrup, artificial additives, coloring agents or preservatives.
